What if you didn't have to know how to paint? What if you could trust that you already knew how to paint?
Imagine painting from a place of freedom, a place of awe and discovery, a childlike place. Imagine this place to be one where wonderful, healing, and mysterious happenings occur. I invite you to enter into the mystery and experience painting as a spiritual journey into the unknown.
Historically, in many if not all cultures, creative expression was not relegated to a few "gifted" members of the culture. It was the domain of all, intricately interwoven into the fabric of daily life. Creativity was experienced as an energetic life force, a river that flows through us all and connects us to something larger than ourselves. artspace, a center for creativity and healing,is dedicated to creating a safe place to explore this vital life energy.
At artspace you will be encouraged and supported to embark on a journey of self-discovery and exploration. You need only bring your willingness to play, to take risks, and to be wherever and whomever you are. You will be supported to trust your intuition and to respect your unique expression. You will use paint as a sensual, colorful, playful medium to experience your creative process. Challenge your inner critic as you let go of product.
A story shared with me by a student touched my heart and spoke to the journey of spontaneous painting. A 7 year old boy paused for a minute stating he didn't know how to paint what it was he was wanted to paint. 'What if you didn't have to know how to paint it' he was asked? 'What if you could invent it for yourself?' His response,,,'then everything you paint would be alive!"
This is a lovely example of how process painting unfolded in one woman's life journey.
Elizabeth Gilbert delightfully speaks about this as she shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person "being" a genius, all of us "have" a genius. It's a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.

"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift."
Albert Einstein
Intuitive painting offers opportunities for:
Those wanting to explore their creativity but unsure of how to begin. Take back what the culture has taken away and embrace your creative heritage.
Those engaged in healing work. The creative blocks encountered offer wonderful insights and experiences that can support and catalyze life changes and healing.
Artists. Having the opportunity to create in a safe environment free of the pressure of product and judgment can help overcome "blocks", challenge convention, and rekindle creative flow. Remember what called you to the creative journey before all the rules, structure, and galleries.
Spiritual Seekers. the process asks that you stay present, trust, and open to the mystery of your being. It is truly an active meditation.

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
Pablo Picasso
